Chairman and Deputy Mayor Shiraz Mirza, who was Kingston upon Thames borough's first Asian Mayor and whose brainchild the project is, said "This facility will be a multi-cultural hub for many of the borough's residents, community and voluntary groups, providing an affordable venue to hire with excellent facilities. It is offering something that Kingston really needs: a venue that is ideally suited for a wide range of social, business and training activities. I sincerely hope that the hall will encourage the further development of community cohesion and will enhance the role of the voluntary sector in the Royal Borough."
